Error: Offline for database XX failed. BACKUP LOG is terminating abnormally. Lock request time out period exceeded. Processed 10017 pages for database 'XX', file 'YY' on file 1.

Reason: Blocking occurs when one connection to SQL Server locks one or more records, and a second connection to SQL Server requires a conflicting lock type on the record or records locked by the first connection. In simple terms, two applications are accessing the same data at the same time (one of them is the backup application). 
Solution: Identify the other process and readjust the schedule of your SQL backup job (or the schedule of the other process). On how to identify the other process which is executing the lengthy query (and causing the lock) you should refer to Microsoft documentation or other online resources.
